RSS Bandit v1.9.0.972 Release (with updated installer)
Release Overview
Released ahead of Windows 7’s launch, v1.9.0.972 was primarily a bug-fix release, cleaning up issues from v1.8.0.870 to leave a stable base for more ambitious changes planned for version 2.0 (codenamed Gambit) — including the move to a ribbon-based interface (see the Roadmap for more on that redesign) and support for Windows 7’s new jump lists feature.
The one new feature in this release: the ability to read and comment on Facebook news feed items directly through the app’s Synchronize Feeds function.

Sync & Remote Storage
- Fixed: FTP storage did not work (issue 2555947)
- Fixed: WebDAV remote storage failed to upload or download files
- Fixed: options dialog failed to open when NewsGator Online was selected as the remote storage option
- Fixed an error when removing and re-adding Google Reader or NewsGator as a feed source
- Fixed incorrect “certificate error” messages shown when an invalid password was entered for a remote feed source
Feeds & Content
- Fixed: import feeds dialog displayed the wrong categories for a selected feed source
- Fixed URI canonicalization incorrectly flagging some valid feeds as invalid
- Fixed a crash caused by an XML error in the feed sources file
- Fixed a crash on every startup caused by a corrupted search index
- Fixed a FIPS compliance exception in the app’s own code (issue 2433685); later fully resolved with a modified, FIPS-compliant lucene.net assembly, with a patch suggested upstream to the lucene.net developers
- Various fixes to NNTP feed handling (encoding, crashes, UI)
- Fixed a newly created newsgroup identity not being applied as the default immediately (issue 1642865)

- Fixed: post titles didn’t show up as tooltips on mouse-over (issue 2000769)
- Fixed column layouts not being remembered for unread-items folders (issue 2846923)
- Stopped showing favicons in the browser history toolbar, since invalid image formats from some sites were causing a broken-image icon
- Fixed the column menu not being visible on the View menu in certain cases (issue 2836001)
- Fixed truncated UI elements in the search pane on 120 DPI displays (issue 2723284)
- Fixed truncated descenders in the options dialog on 120 DPI displays (issue 2723227)
- Fixed tree-view rendering issues under custom DPI settings, tested at 120 DPI on Vista (issues 2218081, 2218104, 2219480)
- Fixed English text appearing in the German-language build when items were shown grouped (issue 2798776)
- Fixed links with target=”_blank” incorrectly opening inside the app instead of a new browser window (issue 2335779)
Stability & Performance
- Fixed an exception thrown on first launch when no settings file exists yet
- Removed an unnecessary thread and thread-sleep in the splash screen controller
- Migrated to Infragistics NetAdvantage 2008.3, build 2021 (patched)
- Allowed add-ins to be located in any path
- Made Start/StopIndexerThread complementary; no more timeout on the indexer thread
- Fixed an exception when saving a feed that had been modified since the save began
- Fixed an InvalidOperationException that could be thrown while unread item counts were being generated (issue 2852509)
- Fixed a ClassCastException thrown on errors downloading enclosures/podcasts (issue 2840514)
- Fixed a SEHException, “external component has thrown an exception” (issue 2335753)
- Added a busy cursor when deleting large numbers of items from a list view
