Who we are

RSS Bandit is a publication covering AI tools for reading, summarizing, and organizing what you follow — feeds, podcasts, and news. This policy applies to rssbandit.org and covers any personal information collected through the site.

Information we collect

Information you provide directly. If you email us at contact@rssbandit.org, we receive your email address and the contents of your message. We use this solely to respond to you and don’t add it to any mailing list without your separate consent.

Information collected automatically. Like most websites, we collect standard technical data when you visit: browser type, device type, approximate location (from IP address), pages viewed, referring site, and time spent on the page. This is gathered in aggregate through analytics tools and is not used to identify you personally.

Information from third parties. If you arrive at our site via a link from a search engine, social platform, or another website, that platform may pass along limited referral information as part of normal web traffic data. We don’t separately request or purchase data about you from third parties.

How we use your information

• To operate, maintain, and improve the site and its content
• To respond to questions, corrections, or requests sent to us
• To understand which topics and guides are useful to readers, in aggregate
• To detect and prevent abuse, spam, or security issues
• To comply with legal obligations where applicable

We do not use your information for automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects, and we do not sell personal information.

Cookies and tracking technologies

We may use cookies or similar technologies (such as local storage) for two purposes: keeping the site functioning correctly, and understanding aggregate visitor behavior through analytics. We do not currently use cookies for cross-site behavioral advertising.

Most browsers let you block or delete cookies through their settings. Doing so may affect how some parts of the site function, but won’t prevent you from reading our content.

Third-party services and affiliate disclosure

We use third-party services to help run this site — for example, analytics tools to understand traffic, and a hosting provider to keep the site online. These providers may process limited technical data (like IP address) on our behalf, governed by their own privacy policies.

Some links within our guides are affiliate links: if you click through and sign up for or purchase a product we’ve written about, we may earn a commission, at no additional cost to you. This never influences the substance of our recommendations — we write about tools based on whether we think they’re genuinely useful, not based on commission rates.

We aren’t responsible for the privacy or data practices of external sites we link to, including GitHub or any AI tools we cover. We’d encourage reviewing their policies separately before providing them with your information.

Legal basis for processing (EU/UK visitors)

If you’re located in the EU or UK, our legal basis for processing your information depends on the context:

• Legitimate interest — for aggregate analytics used to understand and improve the site
• Consent — for any non-essential cookies, where required, and for responding to messages you send us
• Legal obligation — where we’re required to retain or disclose information by law

Data retention

We retain correspondence (such as emails sent to contact@rssbandit.org) for as long as reasonably necessary to address the matter raised, and aggregate analytics data for a limited period consistent with our analytics provider’s standard retention settings. We don’t retain personal information longer than necessary for the purposes described in this policy.

Data security

We take reasonable, industry-standard measures to protect information we hold, including serving the site over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. That said, no method of transmission or storage over the internet is completely secure, and we can’t guarantee absolute security.

International data transfers

Depending on where our hosting and analytics providers operate, information collected through this site may be processed in a country other than the one you’re located in. Where this applies, we rely on the safeguards those providers have in place for cross-border data transfers.

Your privacy rights

If you’re in the EU or UK (GDPR): you have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict the use of your personal information, to receive a copy of it in a portable format, and to object to certain processing.

If you’re a California resident (CCPA/CPRA): you have the right to know what personal information we’ve collected about you, to request its deletion, and to opt out of its sale or sharing — though we do not sell or share personal information as defined under California law. You won’t be discriminated against for exercising these rights.

Do Not Track signals

Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” setting. There’s currently no unified industry standard for how sites should respond to this signal, so our site does not currently alter its behavior when it’s detected.

Children’s privacy

This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we’ll delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy periodically to reflect changes in our practices or for legal reasons. Material changes will be reflected by an updated effective date at the top of this page.
