Uninstalled previous RSS version before installing this new version.
Alas, the new version crashes while it is loading up.
Error dialog states:
"Could not load file or assembly 'Infragistics2.Shared.v8.3,Version=8.3.20083.2059, Culture=neutral, PubicKeyToken=7dd5c3163f2cd0cb' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.
I can send you the error.log file if you need further information.

I am seeing some strange behavior. I seem to have some feeds listed twice since the install. Doesn't happen in every folder. One of the feed has no items so I delete that one.

Whoa!!!!
What a mess. Just installed and ran for the first time. I was expecting perhaps 200 new items. It's up to 6000 and still going. Subscriptions that I deleted months ago have reappeared. It doesn't seem to remember what has been marked read. There's over 100 items in the Feed Errors folder.
Well it looks like the update has finished with 16050 Unread Items. This morning there were 400 with the new version.
I have to ask the same question I've ask after the disasters that were the intial attemps of the last two major releases.
Every heard of "testing"?

>>> WARNING! <<<
A closer inspection revealed that a least 20 to 30 of my feeds were deleted by the upgrade from 1.8.0.870. It's hard to say but it looks like they were the most recently created, edited, or moved. As stated above, I have dozens of feeds now that had been deleted. Also the update didn't stop at 16050 - it's now over 20,000 and climbing.
These issues may be unique to me (though I ran 1.8.0.870 this morning without a problem), but I highly recommend making a backup of the RSS Bandit Application directory before upgrading. At least it will give you a starting point in recovering the "My Feeds" contents if the upgrade selectively modifies things.
Also, the upgrade automatically deletes the 1.8.0.870 installation without warning, so be prepared for that.

I upgraded my RSS Bandit installation and when I try to start the new version I get an "RSS Bandit isn't working anymore" error message (roughly translated from german to english, not sure what the message actually is. It's the standard windows "I don't want to execute this program anymore" message).
Can't get in at all.

Had the same issue. I clicked Debug from the crash dialog, and loaded up VS.NET. Looks like the upgrade didn't update the log4net.dll. I had RSS Bandit v1.8 installed, and the log4net.dll was dated 7/24/2008. Uninstalled, reinstalled 1.9 fixed it.
- #18 Dare Obasanjo on Mo 12 Okt, 2009 at 5:14

Uninstall all versions of RSS Bandit then do a clean install of the latest version. This will narrow down if it is an upgrade issue.

OK Dare,
but i want all my Feeds. What files i must backup to have all my Feeds after a clean install?

I did an upgrade and now I am getting the following exception at startup.

here is the correct files.
copy that to C:\Program Files\RssBandit
overwrite the old one which should have a date of 7/24/2008

I upgraded to the latest version, and I had the crash occur on WinXP SP3. I uninstalled, then reinstalled the new version, and everything works fine. I didn't lose my old articles, either.
The only side effect is that every article I had saved is now marked unread. Not a big issue -- just CTRL-A, right-click, and select "Mark as read".
Looking forward to see if some annoyances have been fixed. Thanks for the update!

Hello guys,
thats it. Install RSS-Bandit in an VM and copy the log4net.dll.
Thats the solution.

Since you're running Win7, they may be under C:\Users\...

Initially I had problems with this new version of RSS Bandit, getting the "RSS Bandit has stopped working, Windows is checking for a solution for the problem" message. I solved this by uninstalling and reinstalling again. However, I ended up with a bunch of feeds that I deleted months ago as well as my current ones. Worst of all I've got the alert windows for new items popping up for all of my feeds, even though I've been through them all and switched them off. Seems to have gone from these not working at all in the last version to always working even if you don't want them. Please can we have a fix for this ASAP!!

Thank you #24! I had the same problem as many here (RSS Bandit has stopped working) on my Vista SP2 (x86) after upgrading to this new version without uninstall.
Downloaded the dll from sendspace, copied it to the RSSBandit folder in Program Files and now everything works and feeds are intact! Yay! (Did get some new feeds from the installer, though..)

I'm currently trying to reproduce the installation sequence (1.8.0.870 upgrade to 1.9.0.972) and will update the installer if I can locate the error that causes log4net.dll not to be updated.
- #31 Juozas on Mo 12 Okt, 2009 at 8:59

When file version is not changed, msi would not upgrade that file, log4net.dll version is unchanged.

Note to self: wait with the update next time: check logs first.

For users who are still on v1.8.0.870 I've refreshed the installer to deal with the fact that log4net.dll causes crashes on an upgrade. The new installer is at sourceforge.net/.../download
If you already installed v1.9.0.972 and it is crashing, my recommendation is to uninstall to get rid of all application files and install from scratch

I seem to have upgraded fine but having new (default) feed items added was a bit of a freak out. As some duplicate things I have wondered if my feedlist had been corrupted but all is fine. Maybe the installer should either leave existing list un-molested or allow the option to leave these out

I use WinVista 64bit with all SPs and Updates installed and yes, I used the installer.

Martok: the "Show Feed Alert Windows" feature was not working at all in previous version, also if you configured the feature per feed. I guess, you have the flag "Show Feed Alert Windows | Always" switched on (Right-Click the Bandit system tray icon). If you switch to "As configured by feed" you would get the expected behavior.
- #39 torstenr on Mi 14 Okt, 2009 at 11:45
-
Robin: you mean, our default feeds are added again on upgrade, or you are talking about feed items (posts)? If the first is true, please open a bug for that at sourceforge.net/.../tracker if not yet done.

Does anyone else have the problem where RSS Bandit won't restore from the tray icon?
I'm on Vista x64 SP1. I minimize the program to my system tray and bring it up in the morning to read the new feeds. Since the upgrade it simply refuses to come up. The right-click menu on the tray icon also stops responding. I have to kill the app and restart it.
To make things clear, this is new in the 1.9 release, 1.8 worked fine. I removed all files in my RSS Bandit install directory before upgrading, so it's as good as a clean install.

A little annoyance...
Pressing "shift" key and clicking a link doesn't open a new window outside of the Bandit as it used to work in the previous release!

You can use Right-Click a link and select "open in new window" instead, else you will be kept within Bandit.

Why is it that RSSBandit randombly corrupts my feeds? It was working perfectly yesterday, but today I start it up and get a "Failed to load feed sources" error. And I didn't do anything to it! I love RSS Bandit because it's the easiest RSS program to use, but please, just fix it.

I checked on FTP server and rssbandit staet file was created but wehn I tried to download that state file I, again, got error "Feedlist download failed with erro: Closed..". Going back to version 1.6.620. :-(
